This is the most impressive and largest Buddhist stupa and monastic complex in the Taxila valley, originally founded by the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka. Tourists can marvel at the massive circular drum of the main stupa, surrounded by numerous smaller votive stupas and monastic quarters. Visiting during the pleasant winter months allows for a peaceful and deeply contemplative exploration of the sacred grounds.
